Frequently Asked Questions

Plain-English answers to the questions we’re asked most.

Yes. We provide an obligation-free initial call to understand your situation, outline options, and advise next steps. If you’d like a detailed strategy session or document review, we’ll quote a fixed fee upfront.

It depends on the matter, but we prioritise cost clarity. Many services (e.g., conveyancing, straightforward agreements, first court mentions) are offered on fixed fees. For disputes/litigation, we give estimates, stage plans, and regular updates—no surprises.

Not usually. Many issues resolve through negotiation, mediation or consent orders. If court is necessary, we prepare thoroughly and advocate firmly while keeping you informed at every step.

Bring any letters, contracts, police paperwork, court documents, timelines, emails and ID. If you’re unsure, bring everything—we’ll sort what’s relevant.

Stay calm and call us before you answer questions. You have the right to seek legal advice. Our criminal lawyers are available 24/7 for urgent matters and can attend interviews to protect your rights.

You must be separated for at least 12 months before applying. After filing, most matters are processed in a few months; the divorce becomes final one month and one day after the order. Property and parenting issues are handled separately—we can manage them in parallel.

Standard settlements in Victoria are 30–60 days, depending on the contract. We review special conditions, conduct searches, liaise with all parties, and keep settlement on track and on time.

Yes. Sidhu Legal for Business covers contracts, deals, leasing, governance, IP, employment and disputes. Sidhu Legal for Individuals covers family law, criminal defence (24/7), conveyancing, property disputes and migration.
